It all begins with
a single jacquard pattern card.
A kimono design first takes shape on a jacquard pattern card. It maps how warp and weft will meet. Without that map, even the most beautiful yarn cannot become cloth.
Our company began as a small workshop producing those pattern cards. Before weaving the fabric, we drew its map. That attitude — beginning with design — still sits at the root of every decision we make.

Where Kyoto Nishijin layers many colors of yarn to draw its patterns, Tango — where we live and work — has long expressed itself through the woven structure of the cloth, with a restrained number of yarn colors.
Shadow and dimension are born from the meeting of warp and weft, from the structure itself. That is why even a single-color plain cloth, or a piece of white silk, can hold genuine depth and dignity. This is the true voice of Tango silk jacquard — a textile drawn by its very structure.
If Nishijin composes through the number of colors, Tango composes through the subtlety of weave. We feel this way of thinking resonates deeply with the architecture and the design of contemporary life.

Design, pattern drafting, jacquard punch cards, weaving. We carry out every step in the making of silk jacquard textiles with our own hands.
Why hold to this approach? Because we want to follow every moment ourselves: from the line a designer draws, through the punch cards prepared by our craftspeople, to the instant thread becomes fabric on the loom.
There is a fidelity to the cloth, and a straightforwardness toward the maker's intent, that can only be answered here. That spirit of making is everything to us.
