Tango. A sacred land of silk weaving on the Sea of Japan, where three hundred years of chirimen memory live on. Within that heritage, Ebara Sangyo began in 1950 as a maker of monshi, the pattern cards that translate kimono design into the loom's instructions. Our craft begins with design — before the cloth is ever woven.
A delicate weave, refined for kimono on looms of about forty centimetres. We carried that craft outward, to the one-hundred-and-twelve-centimetre width of the world's fabric markets. The expression nurtured by kimono — now reaching dresses, shirts, and interiors.
Silk is both ancient and new. Washable. Protective. Breathable. With the DNA of kimono, we create new lifestyles.

Tango has been a silk weaving region for over 1,300 years.
In the Tenpyo era, silk was
offered to Emperor Shomu and is still preserved at Nara's Shōsōin.
Today Tango remains Japan's leading
silk production area.
